Perot Systems Teams with Medicity to Deliver Delaware’s Statewide Health Information Network

Printable Version

Plano, TX, November 14, 2006—Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER) has teamed with Salt Lake City-based Medicity, Inc. to build the first statewide health information exchange for the Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN). The six-year contract, with two automatically renewing two-year extensions, was awarded in competitive bidding in October.

The DHIN Clinical Information Exchange Utility is designed to help the state of Delaware monitor public health, allow providers to better manage patient care, and provide consumers with tools to become more engaged in their own healthcare. The DHIN expects the network to support more than six million secure, fast, and reliable health information exchanges per year. The first phase of the project involves three hospitals, several physician offices, and a clinical laboratory network, and is expected to be operational within six to nine months.

Perot Systems will work with Medicity and the state of Delaware to develop, implement and operate the network to deliver real-time clinical information sharing among all healthcare providers, hospitals, labs and pharmacies across the state. Medicity will provide its innovative Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) software platform with its flexible health information exchange architecture. Perot Systems will provide state-of-the-art data center services from its Plano Technology Center, technical and provider help desks, and outreach training; as well as on-site customer service.

“Perot Systems offers DHIN market-leading best practices and tools, and extensive experience in the healthcare industry. This combination of expertise and resources will give Delaware the predictable technology environment to reliably connect physicians, hospitals and other organizations in the statewide network,” said Chuck Lyles, president of Perot Systems’ healthcare industry group. “We are pleased about our collaboration with Medicity and the DHIN, and look forward to delivering an information network that will bring great benefit to the residents of Delaware.”

“We are pleased to have Perot Systems working with us on this first project,” said Kipp Lassetter, Medicity CEO. “Medicity brings to the Delaware initiative years of experience acquiring data from disparate systems in the care community and distributing it to physicians in the way they want to receive it. Using our platform, DHIN will be able to deliver results to physician electronic medical record systems, physician practice printers, faxes, and a DHIN sponsored web application.”

Perot Systems now serves more than 590 hospitals with information technology, clinical transformation and financial optimization solutions. The company is a recognized leader in the healthcare industry and is known for its innovative approach to helping providers execute strategic transformational initiatives to improve patient care. Perot Systems associates worldwide provide business and technical services for all segments in the healthcare marketplace.
