New functionality viewed as important extension
to existing application suite that includes clinical
data repository, electronic signature and ambulatory
CPOE functionality

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, February 20, 2004 - Medicity, Inc., a leading provider of physician portals for hospitals, today announced that its hospital clients will now be able to deliver inpatient CPOE functionality to their physicians through the Medicity enterprise physician portal.

The Medicity system enables physicians to access and interact with multiple, disparate hospital information systems through a single, secure, web-based application. Data that is accessible through the Medicity portal may include demographics, lab results, radiological images, or other diagnostic data. In addition, physicians are able to view patients’ aggregated clinical data, electronically “sign” orders, and order medications and lab tests in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings. This enables hospitals to improve accuracy of orders, enhance workflow, and strengthen point-of-care decision support. The physician portal also streamlines and strengthens communication and follow-up between physicians, nurses, technicians and others involved with patient care.

“As hospitals continue to bolster physician outreach programs by delivering innovative functionality to manage clinical information, we believe that inpatient CPOE fits squarely within the other applications that improve clinical processes,” said Kipp Lassetter, M.D., CEO of Medicity. “Our inpatient CPOE application extends the benefits that both hospitals and physicians are experiencing from the other applications in the physician portal, such as lab results reporting, electronic signatures, and outpatient CPOE.”

Lassetter added, “It’s clear that physician adoption is a critical factor for the successful implementation of clinical systems. We see inpatient CPOE as a natural extension to our other portal applications that not only will be embraced, but will be demanded in the marketplace.”
