MediTrust™ Tutorial

A MediTrust certificate is a digital document that proves your identity to our network - much like a passport. If you are authorized to have access to sensitive information through Medicity, this 'passport' will be checked each time you login. Most of the process has been automated to make it easy to use, but there are a few important steps to getting started. We will walk you through the process of getting and using your MediTrust certificate.

Step One: Sign up.
Your system administrator contacts Medicity with a list of users authorized for MediTrust certificates. Typically these are users who need to access clinical data or other sensitive patient information.

Step Two: Activate your certificate.
You will be notified the next time you login that your MediTrust certificate has been issued. You will have the option to activate it at that time, or to postpone. You will need to activate your certificate to access secure information.

Step Three: New password.
You will be asked to enter a new password in the form of a number with six or more digits.

Power Hint: remember this number, and keep it secret. This numeric password will replace your old password, and you will need it every time you login.

Step Four: Temporary or permanent installation.
Select permanent if you are working at a computer you plan to use regularly. Don't worry: multiple users can store their MediTrust certificates on one computer. Select temporary if you want your MediTrust certificate to be removed after your current session.

Power Hint: your temporary certificate won't be removed until you close your Web browser (e.g. Netscape or Internet Explorer).

Step Five: Enter six questions and answers.
These should be questions that only you can answer correctly. Do not, for example use the question: "How many bones in the human skeleton?" when you login from a machine that does not have your MediTrust certificate installed, you will be asked to answer two of your six questions in order to install a new certificate.

Power Hint: try to use one-word answers, and keep them simple!

Step Six: Customer Service.
If you are having difficulty activating your Meditrust Certificate, don't despair. Your certificate may have been revoked for security reasons, or may have been tagged for annual renewal. Contact your system administrator or our customer service department, 888.830.1022.
