Medicity,
Inc. Unveils Powerful e-Health Security Solution
SALT
LAKE CITY, UT — Medicity
Inc., a leading innovator of secure e-health solutions,
today announced the general availability of its MediTrust
solution for secure, portable access to sensitive patient
information over the Internet.
Integrated
into the Medicity Internet platform, MediTrust
was designed to create a secure environment in which physicians,
hospitals, practice groups and laboratories can exchange
patient records and other sensitive data. Medicity's strategy
allows organizations that deal with electronic patient
information to link existing systems together with minimal
expenditure, while meeting emerging federal standards
for the protection of patient privacy.
MediTrust
is an innovative solution that combines the most advanced
security technology with a user-friendly interface. "Nobody
wants to wade through complicated security procedures
to be able to look up a lab result," said Kipp Lassetter,
M.D., CEO of Medicity. "Physicians want to know that
we've taken care of the details, and that they can trust
our solution to protect their patients' privacy.
MediTrust
takes a step beyond conventional Internet security systems
by allowing a user to quickly establish a secure connection
from any computer with access to the Internet, including
PDAs.
MediTrust
is a key part of Medicity's strategy to use the power
of the Internet to improve the practice of healthcare.
Recognizing that physicians use the tools they find most
useful during the workday, Medicity offers physicians
an Internet "desktop" accessible by a single,
secure login. The desktop ties together the electronic
resources specific to the physician's practice, including
laboratory data, prioritized office communications, third-party
ASP offerings, e-mail, and practice-specific content.
With an unparalleled degree of personalization and utility,
Medicity can be the physician's single point of access
to the Internet. "Medicity is a useful tool because
it aggregates the resources and prioritizes the communications
unique to each physician's practice," Lassetter said.
"Physicians don't have the time to sift through irrelevant
content--Medicity lets them select their own content."
"We
met the two goals we had for MediTrust:
unbeatable security and utter simplicity. We wanted a
level of security that would surpass current expectations
and would be scalable for the future. We also wanted it
to be so easy to use that you wouldn't know it's there,"
said David Coyle, president of Medicity. Medicity is currently
using the technology to distribute laboratory and hospital
data to physicians nationwide.
The
MediTrust
solution is built upon 128-bit encryption and public key
infrastructure in combination with a portable, software-only
authentication system that employs the power of digital
certificates protected by "cryptographic camouflage."
The system can authenticate roaming users who are logging-in
from remote computers. The steps of the authentication
process are automated, so the user is virtually unaware
of the security infrastructure protecting his information.
The technology will be available for the Pocket PC in
the first quarter of 2001.
